Gentle Monster is a Korean brand that seeks to disrupt the optical retail industry’s traditional approach to design. As a brand, they are positioned to be cutting edge. Which means they need a store that reflects their unique, modern aesthetic. This is reflected in the materials used in their Los Angeles flagship store. Their second U.S. location alternates black mirror and concrete on the walls, both of which are accented with a built in display section made of solid oak timber battens and rough edged white marble. The flooring is composed of Azul Bahia blue marble quarried from Brazil, two kinds of terrazzo -one ivory based, another grey- both with white chips, textured pebbled tiles with epoxy finish, colored concrete, blue-veined white marble, and black high-polish marble. Mother of Pearl is used in the entryway, and solid Bubinga planks are used for internal elevation.
