Our Culture, Our Heart

We foster a culture where every individual feels recognized, valued, and energized. At the heart of Michilli is a strong sense of community, built through team-building activities, offsite social events, wellness initiatives, creative photo contests, and lunch & learns.

To celebrate those who go above and beyond, we created the Golden Hard Hat Award. This recognition program honors our employees who demonstrate leadership and inspiration regardless of job title.

And because careers are built with heart as well as hard work, we’re committed to providing opportunities for growth and internal promotion that allow our people to thrive.

Michael Hayes
Project Manager

What do you like most about working at Michilli?

The office is behind a variety of interesting projects, led by talented and dedicated team members.

What makes Michilli different from other places you’ve worked?

The office maintains a high standard of excellence, which fosters trust and autonomy across the team. I really appreciate the supportive, respectful atmosphere — both in the office and in how we work together.

What has been your favorite project or experience here so far?

I’m currently working on a Tribeca residential project (116 Hudson) that stands out as a favorite because of the combination of a strong, collaborative team, engaged ownership, reliable subcontractors, and a truly interesting design. The project is conveniently accessible from both home and office — and just 50 feet from the best matcha latte I’ve found in the city.

How have you grown professionally since joining Michilli?

Absolutely — the variety of projects that Michilli takes on has given me valuable insight into many facets of construction that I hadn’t encountered in previous offices, where the work often felt more routine. The more exposure I get, the more I continue to learn and grow.

What keeps you motivated in your role?

The matcha latte helps, but the real motivation comes from a genuine desire to keep growing and improving in the construction industry. Ultimately, maintaining a strong reputation — by working smart and collaborating well with others — drives me the most.

I appreciate the collaborative approach here - there's a good balance between having autonomy in my work and being able to tap into team expertise when needed.

How would you describe our company culture?

It’s professional but not overly formal. People are friendly, approachable, and always willing to help, and there’s a strong respect for work-life balance. It’s results-oriented, but never in a way that adds unnecessary pressure.

What makes Michilli different from other places you’ve worked?

Communication here is more direct, transparent, and efficient. Decisions are made at a steady, reasonable pace, with far less bureaucracy or red tape than in other environments I’ve experienced.

What has been your favorite project or experience here so far?

SVHO has been especially rewarding, as it allowed me to step into a superintendent role for the first time — thanks to the guidance and mentorship of the team at Michilli.

How have you grown professionally since joining Michilli?

I’ve improved my ability to sequence work effectively — both on a micro and macro level. The variety of projects here has challenged me to build new skills and develop strengths I might not have explored elsewhere.

What keeps you motivated in your role?

I enjoy solving problems and seeing real, measurable results from my work. The variety keeps each day engaging, and I’m continually building skills that will benefit me long-term.

There’s a strong sense of open communication, and the company fosters a fun, supportive environment where employees feel valued.
